The Textile Society Museum, Archive, Library or Repository Award

The Society offers an award of £1,000 for a textile related project within the museum, archive, library or repository sector. The Award is designed to support textile related projects; e.g. Conservation, Exhibition or Publication, that will help achieve greater awareness and access to the public.

There are no specific criteria for what we support as the Society realises that there are many textile projects which need support.

Criteria/Guidelines

The project should have a clearly defined educational objective which will increase public access to the collection or archive.

The judges look for a project that is viable and has vision.

The museum should have a registered / provisional registered status or should have a registration with The Society of Archivist’s, if an archive. If the applicant is a private society or repository then a visit or a further request for information may be necessary to verify that archival / museum standards are undertaken.

Applications for awards should state clearly how the Textile Society funding will be spent. This should be no more than four written sides of A4; each sheet should be clearly marked with the name of the institution applying.

Please do not include slides or CD’s. Each application is photocopied 3 times for the judging panel, if you wish to include a brochure then please provide 4 copies.

Judges are selected from the Textile Society Committee, if you personally know one of the committee members then please declare this on your application form. This will not affect your chances of eligibility for the award.

Applicants DO NOT have to be institutional members of the Textile Society to apply however, if you are not a member then a £10 administration fee will be charged.

A working liaison with the Textile Society is encouraged and as such the Textile Society should be appropriately acknowledged and provided with a brief report which may published in TEXT (The Textile Society Journal) and /or if appropriate a study day held at the winning institution.

Awards cannot be put towards salaries of permanent employees or the running costs of the institution.

Institutions may apply for an Award of up to £1,000.

The Textile Society’s committee decision is final.

Closing date for applications: 1st May 2008
