Formed in 1997 at the suggestion of Angela Thompson, a Textile Society member and collector of worldwide textiles, who wished to make contact with others with a similar passion. She felt it would be helpful to discuss the problems and pleasures of maintaining a private collection.
Angela approached several collectors including Irene Barnes, whose collection of 1920's beaded dresses was housed in Bury St Edmunds Museum, before it closed. The late Montse Stanley who had set up her Knitting Research Library and later formed the Early Knitting History Group, now housed at the University of Southampton, was also instrumental in setting up the group.
The Forum is currenetly not opperating as a seperate subscription group. Visits still take place as part of the overall events programme and are open to everyone. If any members would like to revive the group they should contact the chair person.
