V&A Win Textile Society Museum Award

V&A Win Textile Society Museum Award

The Textile Society is pleased to offer a grant of almost £1000 to the V&A in support of a future exhibition. The museum is planning a quilting exhibition, 'Quilts:Hidden Histories, Untold Stories', to open in March 2010.

One of the star items will be a quilt dated to about 1810, which celebrates the golden jubilee of King George III. The quilt is made up of variety of quilted cottons, especially chintzs, which were becoming cheaply and widely available from English mills.

The quilt is in good condition visually, but is not robust enough for mounting and display without conservation work costing £965. This grant will make this conservation work possible.
