Berg Fashion Library
Berg Publishers has announced that it has signed an agreement with Oxford University Press for global distribution of the Berg Fashion Library, an online resource launching in May 2010.
Informed by prestigious academic and library advisors, the Berg Fashion Library will be the first online portal to provide access to interdisciplinary and integrated book, image and journal content on world dress and fashion. Featuring images from the Victoria & Albert Museum’s world renowned Fashion Collection, the Berg Fashion Library will enable cross-searchable access to an expanding range of content, including the forthcoming 10-volume Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion, an image bank, an e-book collection, an A-Z of fashion, a dictionary of key terms, and an index of key museum collections. It will also feature premium links to journals. All content will be underpinned by a bespoke taxonomy to enhance search and browse.
Casper Grathwohl, Vice President and Publisher of Reference at Oxford University Press, commented:
“The Berg Fashion Library is an ideal resource for OUP to distribute. We’ve seen just how much interest there is in fashion through Grove Art and Oxford Art Online. The Berg Fashion Library fills a real gap, not only for scholars and students of fashion and art, but for a broad range of disciplines – anthropology, history, theater studies, sociology, human geography, folklore. Additionally, links between Grove Art and the Berg Fashion Library will enrich our offering to existing and new subscribers.”
Kathryn Earle, Managing Director of Berg Publishers, noted:
“We are very excited to be partnering with Oxford University Press for global distribution of the Berg Fashion Library. OUP have unparalleled market penetration and knowledge of local territories throughout the world. Because the Berg Fashion Library aims to provide balanced coverage of dress throughout history and across cultures, it is appropriate that we are working with a partner so well placed to reach the broadest spectrum of interested users. And of course the links with Grove Art provide an added bonus for our subscribers.”
The Berg Fashion Library will be available by annual subscription to institutions worldwide.
