Appeal for Indian Collections

There were at least 10 merchants/captains of the East India Company who lived in what is now the London Borough of Redbridge. This included one its most important directors, Josiah Child.

Today, some 25% of Redbridge's local population has a South Asian background.

The museum is appealing for private collectors who have material associated with India during the time of trade with the East India Company (roughly 1600 – 1850). This could be full garments or pieces of cloth, either imported
from or exported to India.

The exhibition is planned for October-December 2010.
