500 new Fashion Museum collection images to go online
The Fashion Museum are working with Bloomsbury Fashion Central, an award-winning digital platform for fashion research and education to offer access to the collection through the Berg Fashion Library, an online resource that provides students and scholars throughout the world with top quality digitised content on dress.
In June the Fashion Museum submitted 500 new images to the Berg Fashion Library image bank together with detailed descriptions written by the Fashion Museum curators. This included 250 photographs of lace and whitework objects from the Museum collection; 200 images of ensembles by 1970s and 1980s British fashion designers Wendy Dagworthy and Ossie Clark; and 50 images of fashionable dress featured in the pages of The Illustrated London News, the world’s first illustrated weekly news magazine of which the Fashion Museum has a large collection of issues dating from the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The Fashion Museum has also contributed digitised content of two past exhibitions from recent years: Lace in Fashion (2017) and What Will She Wear? The Enduring Romance of the Wedding Dress (2011). These displays in the Fashion Museum galleries will be available to view online through the Berg Fashion Library exhibition archive and will feature alongside fashion exhibitions by major museums across the globe including The Museum at FIT; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Victoria and Albert Museum; and Museo de la Moda in Santiago, Chile. We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Bloomsbury Fashion Central and will be adding more images to the Berg Fashion Library at regular intervals so watch this space!
