SUMMARY:MAKING NUNO Japanese Textile Innovation from Sudō Reiko
DESCRIPTION:A brand-new exhibition adaptation presenting work by internationally acclaimed Japanese textile designer Sudō Reiko with projection installations designed by the exhibition’s artistic director\, Saitō Seiichi of Rhizomatiks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe free exhibition reveals how Sudō Reiko’s work pushes the boundaries of textile production with unconventional and sustainable materials and engineering techniques\, working with manufacturers from across Japan.  \nFeaturing five large-scale installations combining NUNO textiles and art projections by leading technological designers Rhizomatiks from Tokyo\, shown for the first time in the UK\, with supporting drawings and sketches\, raw materials\, design prototypes\, and video. \nProduced in collaboration with CHAT (Centre for Heritage\, Arts and Textile) in Hong Kong\, the exhibition expands on the successful show in 2019 curated by Takahashi Mizuki\, Executive Director and Chief Curator of CHAT. \n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details

DESCRIPTION:Showcasing 350 pairs of boots and shoes Shoephoria! will trace the evolution of shoe style over the last 300 years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition will include shoes worn by iconic figures from British cultural life\, including actors Noel Coward and Margaret Lockwood\, music hall star Fred Kitchen\, ballerinas Margot Fonteyn and Alicia Markova\, and Nicola Adams in Strictly Come Dancing 2020. Shoephoria! aims to present a new way of looking at footwear and its wearers in a show that demonstrates the creativity and style of shoemakers and wearers throughout history. \nFrom the oldest shoes in the collection – a pair of red velvet mules from the 1690s – to sneakers and trainers from the 2000s; from shoes belonging to Queen Mary and Queen Victoria to designer shoes by Vivienne Westwood\, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo\, Shoephoria! offers a close-up look at the various styles that make up the history of footwear. \n\n\n\nEvent Details

SUMMARY:Women Making History Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Women Making History is an extraordinary exhibition that brings together artworks inspired by banners of the suffrage movement and highlights the continuing struggle to achieve gender equality.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn June 2018\, tens of thousands of women marched through the streets of Belfast\, Cardiff\, Edinburgh and London to mark 100 years since the first UK women were allowed to vote. \nThis mass-participation artwork\, PROCESSIONS\, was commissioned by 14-18 NOW and produced by Artichoke. Now you can see these pieces up close for one exhibition only\, hanging in the Drill Hall of London Scottish House\, Westminster. \nThese colourful handcrafted works of art were created by women groups in the UK and renowned women from the arts and British fashion industry. SUMMARY:The Pattern Social ‘Top tips for designers and emerging creatives’
DESCRIPTION:TEXTILE SOCIETY EVENT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Textile Designer Jules McKeown will give an insight into Textile Design from archive inspiration to design ideas and print.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContinuing the Textile Society programme of online events we invite you to join us for a talk by Textile Designer Jules McKeown of the Pattern Social. Jules founded the Pattern Social in 2015 as a design collaborative working with designers and educators to promote contemporary textile design. \nJules is passionate about pattern\, colour and print. A Masters in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art specialising in Fashion Print enabled her to pursue her dream working as a print designer in London and New York. \nAfter a number of years working in industry she set up as a freelance textile designer and has worked with a wide range of clients across many product sectors from fashion\, home\, stationery\, greetings to book illustration; she has exhibited her work at international textile design events – Surtex in New York and Premier Vision\, Paris.  \nHer work is driven by a love of bold colour and clashing pattern that mixes different eclectic styles and influences; from mid-century\, slick Memphis graphics to Liberty print florals. The artwork starts off hand generated in a sketchbook or postcard combining various methodologies from collage\, mark making to simply drawing with marker pens. These are often developed digitally depending on the outcome using Adobe Illustrator\, Photoshop or Procreate.
