SUMMARY:A History of Fashion in 100 Objects
DESCRIPTION:One hundred star objects from the Fashion Museum collection.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA History of Fashion in 100 Objects is a major display celebrating fashion from the 1600s to the present day. Showcasing 100 star objects drawn from the Fashion Museum’s world-class collection\, these displays give visitors an instant insight into the era-defining outfits and headline pieces that have shaped our wardrobes over the past 400 years. \nFashion touches everyone’s life – it is intrinsically linked to society – and A History of Fashion in 100 Objects references moments in history\, as well as more personal stories. Graceful silk robes and embroidered and tailored coats for men\, the styles fashionable during Bath’s Georgian heyday are on show\, along with Regency fashion from the time of Jane Austen and dresses by the big names of fashion history\, including the House of Worth and Christian Dior. \nThe display also includes ten shoe ‘moments’ throughout history\, from Georgian silk shoes to Nike Air trainers as well as a children’s trail featuring ten ‘historical fashion’ looks for kids\, from the 1700s to the 2000s. \n\n\n\nEvent Details

Stripe collection to discover iconic textiles\, includes a tour by the curator and behind the scenes viewing of items.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2020 the Silk Museum\, Macclesfield was the well-deserved recipient of the prestigious Textile Society Museum\, Archive and Conservation Award. Now the Society looks forward to sharing the successes of this project with its members. \nWe are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to visit the Macclesfield Stripe collection at the Silk Museum. Here you will discover the iconic 1920-1940s designs and learn how they are being conserved for future generations. \nYou will be treated to an exhibition tour with Curator Kathryn Warburton\, and will have the opportunity to look behind the scenes and view additional pieces from the collection that are not currently on display. \nThis is the first time in decades that a selection of these striking and colourful pieces have been on display. Don’t miss it! \nPlaces are limited. DESCRIPTION:TEXTILE SOCIETY EVENT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	The Textile Society annual collectors’ fair in the North of England\, held at the Armitage Centre.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Textile Society’s Antique and Vintage Textile Fair in Manchester (now in its 30th year) is a key event in the Textile Fairs calendar.  A hub for all passionate collectors of textiles\, it was the first antique fair to specialise entirely in textiles.   \nIt brings together antique and vintage textile dealers from around the globe. You will find an array of items from Asia\, Europe brought to you by leading specialists.  Many dealers are world renowned experts who offer advice to Museums\, Archives and Collectors.     \nYou will find costume\, textiles\, accessories to suit all pockets and taste.  From 17th and 18th century to mid-century; precious remnants to court dress and world textiles.   \nThe fair is an exciting and abundant source for objects and ideas\, whether wall art or wearables\, the beautiful or the kitsch. For those who care about sustainability\, the upcycling and repurposing of the old into something unique and personal for fashion or interiors you will be spoilt for choice.   \nIf you are a student of design\, textiles\, a maker there is a wealth of inspiration.  This is an annual event that you do not want to miss!  \n\n\n\nOpening times and entry fees (10am-4pm) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n7:30 – Early bird trade £20 \n8:30 – Trade £10 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:00 – General Public £7; Textile Society Members/Students £5 \n\n\n\nParking is available\, free for 3 hours and chargeable there after.
