Amy Tidmarsh

£1,000

Amy is clearly as skilled with words as she is with textiles. In her piece titled To Instruct, each chapter is a clever anchoring device that provides a strong inner framework for the essay as a whole.

The opening statement is instantly intriguing and therefore engaging. It is the beginning of a mature, thoughtful, insightful piece, which reveals an equal, balanced understanding of textiles and language.

Amy develops a lively discussion by adopting the first person singular. This allows the author to ask questions of herself and the reader throughout this well-thought-through piece. The essay ends with a playful ‘wrap up’ which leaves the reader with a wry smile.
