Volunteer with the Knitting & Crochet Guild Collection

The Knitting & Crochet Guild are looking for volunteers to work with their Collection held at Britannia Mill, Slaithwaite (Huddersfield).

This may be of particular interest to early career or recent graduates in heritage management, curatorial practice or museum studies. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with a collection, with the possibility of being involved in projects, events and research too.

They’d love to hear from anyone with an interest in textiles, heritage and social history who has time to volunteer regularly too – no experience needed.  There is a small amount of work that can be done remotely, working on our online catalogue and other projects.

The Collection is made up of textile objects, publications (including over 50,000 pattern leaflets), tools, yarn samples and shade cards.

The Knitting & Crochet Guild is a national charity, set up in 1978 to preserve the skills and heritage of domestic hand-knitting, machine-knitting and crochet in the UK. The Guild is also a membership organisation and entirely volunteer-run.

To find out more about the roles and what is required, please email collections@kcguild.org.uk.
